If you don’t trust me…just ask Stephen Colbert!
From April 28th-May 7th, Sunshine Sam’s home, Montclair, New Jersey becomes a bustling host to one of the biggest art festivals in the country. With over 18,000 people in attendance for film screenings, children’s programs, conversations and an infusion of art, it’s an exciting time of year for the entire town. And, we have Stephen Colbert, a Montclair resident, to thank for that.
Mr. Colbert was instrumental in bringing the festival to town, and he continues to be a familiar face on the festival scene. But according to Variety…“Of course we, as a festival, could stand on our own two feet without Stephen if he couldn’t participate,” said Colbert’s wife, Evelyn Colbert, who serves as board president of the Montclair Film Festival. “But we both want to see this (festival) survive and expand because we have both witnessed the influence an art festival can have on a community.”
Evelyn Colbert is correct, because the festival does have a wonderful effect on the community, especially in its support of small businesses. Through its Pin Program, anyone attending a film, conversation or event will receive a pin. And local retailers, like Sunshine Sam, who happily support the festival can connect directly with attendees.
Remember I told you to save your pin? Anytime during the festival, you can bring it into Sunshine Sam and receive 25% off of the purchase of any one item in the store. How cool is that?
